Creative Labs GigaWorks S750: What To Do When 5.1 No Longer Cuts It

If you're a hardcore gamer then you need to get your butt down to a Creative Labs dealer and have a listen to the new Creative GigaWorks S750 7.1 speaker system. This is Creative's flagship multimedia speaker and it has a price to match. The S750 goes beyond mere 5.1 sound by adding two more rear channel speakers for 7.1 surround sound output. This ensemble of speakers and high tech gizmos has created the best sounding Creative speaker we have ever heard.
7.1-channel speaker system differs slightly from their 5.1 counterpart. A 7.1 system supports two rear-channel speakers in addition to the 5.1's standard setup of three front, two side and one subwoofer. The extra 2 outputs benefits gamers the most because 7.1 sound can be rendered in PC games with Microsoft's DirectSound and Creative's EAX sound processing. For DVD and CD playback, Creative offers what is known as up-mixing. This turns a 5.1 channel into 7.1 but it's not as accurate as true 7.1 sound. At this time a true 7.1 standard has not yet been adopted by the home entertainment industry.

"This turns a 5.1 channel into 7.1 but it's not as accurate as true 7.1 sound. At this time a true 7.1 standard has not yet been adopted by the home entertainment industry" Exactly why this isn't all that necessary of a setup. There is no such thing as "Dolby 7.1" or DTS that uses it. Not sure how many PC gamers actually have a set-up that allows them to string speakers all over their room, too. Unless you're an audio nut and 5.1 somehow isn't enough for you...this is kinda pointless. |

It named Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES. Its a 7.1 channel audio format, however since it not widely used, most decoder will just upmix the standard 5.1 to a 7.1 resulting in a wider surround sound field. Pointless?? depends some are happy watching movie with stereo. |
