Creative Labs blames nVidia for the X-Fi issues

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 08/25/2006 02:00 AM [ Print | 12 comment(s) ] · 3000 views

A few months ago we reported about the X-Fi and nForce-4 compatibility issues. This story still develops and Creative is giving us some more headlines. A Creative fan site has published an update from Creative Labs regarding the issues. It seems that Creative is blaming nVidia?s nForce-4 for these issues; here are the technical details they provided!

We have observed through direct observation of the PCI bus on the nVidia nForce 4 motherboards that when the crackle symptoms are occuring, the Soundblaster X-Fi card PCI bus master memory requests for audio data are being held off (not serviced) for very long intervals.

Yes, nVidia refuses to fix this for some unknown reason. And until they do, I will not recommend an nForce 4 based motherboard.

...or you can just not buy an X-Fi sound card since you don't NEED the absolutely latest and greatest sound card. I have an nForce 4 AMD SLI edition mobo and it's rock solid with my Audigy 2 ZS.

Sigh
First NVIDIA has nothing to do with this problem (intel, nvidia, sis, via etc etc) all suffer from this problem in some extent (nforce 4 being worst). This is just creative BS in its finest (and some like jaybo&stillcrazy believes it)
I have new nforce5 AM2 chipset system and an intel x955 chipset BOTH suffers from the problem (intel X955 being much worse)
There is couple thing to do to reduce it but it never complately gone.

1. Find PCI slot that DOESN'T share irq with anything (or if this is not possible look for irq that isn't shared with pci-e or agp)
2. Don't use SVM (smart volume monitor) in creative audio console

So in short it creative's flaw in x-fi NOT in chipset makers (but it is amazing soundcard when is it working)

How they are idiots when the trying to get x-fi to work (creative blaming evereybody else but self). Sound to me more that you are idiot...

This is short history of x-fi:

1. It is relesed in end of the year 2005.
2. Creative forums start get floods of post of crackling & popping
3. Creative ignores those only SAYING that people hear things
4. Update x-fi comes (with heatsink and updated firmware) ofcourse its not fixing problem.
5. After 8 months creative admits that there is problem and they are "investigating" it
6. About two months after that creative has come to solution that it is only nforce4 problem BS! BS! BS!
(by looking creative foorums you can see with your own eyes that it isn't only nforce4 problem).
7. Nvidia can't fix problem that isn't their problem
8. Same goes on and on and only losers are people who bought x-fi)

Still feeling smart Jaybo...

Problems with IRQs such as stuttering, sound poping, have been on every platform Ive used bar none. Its not a creative or nvidia problem.

Its an outdated system bus, namely the PCI bus, its equally an OS problem since the effects are for the most part dependant of the IRQ assignments set by the OS at install.

The PCI bus need updating or creative should find another way of interfacing with the system.

Right, now who is the crazy one here? I have to have my 200.00 X-Fi Platinum working, or I will have to strip naked and post the photos here. I am 51, and weigh over 270 pounds.... not a pretty site, if you ask me. ROFLOL

The above statement is false. I have had perfect performance from my X-Fi and PTK1982 sounds like he works for a competitor.
