Creative Labs Admits Problem With Their Audigy Lineup!

Posted by: [PM] on: 02/05/2002 02:37 PM [ Print | 10 comment(s) ] · 1756 views

The Problem described as an "lockup combined with an ongoing squeal" the Audigy series seems to be a problematic product when used with Windows 2000 or XP. I myself fortunately do not have this problem, but Creative has now enlisted this "severe" problem in their knowledge base. What is troubling is that Creative has not been able to isolate the problem yet whether it's a driver bug or possibly worse - defect hardware itself. The problem occurs randomly and is not pinpointable to gaming or music listening.
"We have not been able to really isolate what is really causing the problem," said Mala Sharma, a representative of Creative's brand management team in Milpitas, Calif. Sharma said that Steve Erickson, Creative's vice-president in charge of consumer audio products, had been notified of the problem. "I'm sure since the vice-president has been notified, that the engineering team will have all the resources they need to solve the problem," she said. Source: ExtremeTech

I wish they would find a problem..i never had a problem with the Audigy card, put it in tons of systems to without problems.

Only needed 1 driver update for winXP for it to work like it should, drivers with winXP had some minor quirks, but was fixed fast enough.

They have lots of parents useing it i bet and wondering how come they can't get there modem to play music.....lol

there are serveral problems... one is that it is uninstallable under winxp and even being destroyed after the install.
some other users also report that it goes poof after a few weeks/months of use without a warning.

The problem, if I'm understanding it right is that the computer will hard-lock, with a rather annoying noise coming from the computer until you power-cycle it...I should know, cause I've had this problem with my SBLive! for over a year now!!! It only happens when I have my RAID controller (KT7-RAID) enabled and do file transfers, but it's there...but I could never get anyone to believe me!!!

I even once had a bomb to freaky hangup-sound in codename: outbreak after playing for already about an hour. only with sb audigy. under win98se. ecs k7s5a. geforce2mx asus.
it could be a conflict with nvidia 23.11. somewhere in the deeps of directx. or with the everlasting, always top of the queue dma in all its shades.
it would be interesting to see if problems with sb extigy persist.
