CDFreaks.com reports Womble tells us that Star-Force copy protection installs hidden drivers.
The drivers can be shown when selecting 'hidden devices' in the device manager of Windows XP. Installed drivers are: 'Starforce Protection Enviroment Driver v5', 'Starforce Protection Helper Driver', 'Starforce Protection Helper Driver v2', 'Starforce Protection Synchronizer v1'. All these drivers are installed when you install a game that is Starforce protected.

All copy protection is scumware. Remember when they came up with copyiipc ? Companies dropped copy protection for a couple of years or so. But know they are back with a vengeance. The only ones that are hurt by copy protection are the legit users of that software. Until they make CD's and DVD's (or similar discs) scratch proof, we as legit users should be able to make backups to use in case of emergencies. Here in the states we have been doing that for years, but now we have to again resort to third party intervention just to make a backup. BTW, CopyiiPC was freeware, unlike Alcohol 120%. |
