Ever thrown a Western Digital hard drive into a campfire? Well, PC Magazine's executive editor Jeremy Kaplan did while on his camping trip in Maine. Why? He wanted to see if Ontrack could save his barbecued data. Find out if the company was able to save it successfully.

Yeah I cant see heat actually damaging the data on the platters unless the curie point of iron oxide is reached (is it the same as iron, 770 C ?) |

hmm you need to research what heat does to magnets. Go get a decent magnet, measure its field strength and then heat it. It wont be the same magnet. Same applies for a hard disk surface. Theres the possibility that the hard dsk surface will become mis-shaped by heat damage, potentially wrecking the platters or making them extremely difficult to extract the data. take care not to post information on things which you know nothing. |
