Call of Duty 2 Boycott?

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 11/27/2005 11:55 PM [ Print | 9 comment(s) ] · 4197 views

GG Mania is reporting that there may be a 24-hour boycott of the online portion of all Call of Duty games if Infinity Ward does not address the following issues:

The statement should include the following:
1. When will you include an Anti-Cheat system for COD2?
2. When you you release your 1st patch for COD2?
3. What will it include?
4. What other plans have you for the support of the Call of Duty Games?
5. What will you do to ensure this situation does not arise again?

Original source can be located here at IW Nation

The movement for this now has an official title. This is from the originator, ButchCassidy:
--------------------------------------------------------------
OK There seems to be some confusion on the Action date so here is the way it will go down.
This Movement now has a name COD COMMUNITY ACTION OR CCA

IF WE RECIEVE NO STATEMENT ON OR BEFORE THE 16th DECEMBER 2005.

THEN ON THE 17TH DECEMBER AT 6PM YOUR LOCAL TIME (THAT'S THE TIME IN YOUR COUNTRY)

ALL PARTICIPATING SERVERS WILL EITHER SHUTDOWN OR LOCKDOWN
(THIS IS YOUR CHOICE) WITH A SECURE PASSWORD AND REPLACE THE SERVER NAME WITH "WE SUPPORT CCA"

THEY WILL REMAIN DOWN OR LOCKED FOR A 24 HOUR PERIOD UNTIL 6PM THE 18TH DECEMBER 2005.

FOR THOSE WHO READ MY POST CAREFULLY I STATED "We will actively encourage ALL Clans, Leagues, Ladders, Players, Admins and server providers to enforce a series of 24hr mass server shutdowns of all Call of duty games at a time of our choosing

boycotting buying something (eg. DRM music ) i can totally understand.

but how does this acheive anything? all I can see it doing is piss of people that have allready bought it, who are looking to play online, who don't know about the boycot, and save hosts lots of money in server bandwidth?

What's the point in having a boycott which you can only participate in AFTER buying the game? I can understand their frustration but exactly what are they hoping to achieve; the companies already got their money, it's a bit late now.

Its bad press for Activision and IW. This get out and around, you think amny people who have not bought the game will decide they want to? I decided not to buy the game for the very reason the server admins are deciding to shut down.
All IW has to do is say something, anything. They have been completly silent, and have ignored one of the driving forces behind their games, the server admins.

Just another reason console games come out in droves and PC games are slowly fading away. They are lucky, they had a hot selling title that wasnt a Sim or Warcraft game, but from what I hear COD on the console version is hot as well. Now, the final thought. World of Warcraft players have been bitching since day 1. Read their forums for the whine fest. I know a pile of hardcore players and for all their bitching, try and get them to take a day off... Good luck.

The differance between console gamers and PC gamers is that a forum to whine on is just a click away on the PC side.

PC gaming fading away? Not likely...but it will never match the audience that console gaming has.

Maybe this strike will mean that those people will actually go outside, see the sun and maybe socialize with real people...lol...

MMO gamers will batch about ANYTHING too so if people bitched about WoW from day 1 then that is nothing new.
