Build It: $800 Gaming PC

Many people think that if you want to play games on your PC, you'll need to have an expensive, high-end computer. Our Build-It configuration for the Killer Gaming Rig is tempting and impressive, but it's really an anomaly: Most gamers don't have PCs nearly that expensive. As much as we're impressed by the sheer power of rigs like that, and by the fantastic craftsmanship of the systems in our Ultimate Game Machine competition, a PC that will let you play all of today's games doesn't have to cost a ton of money. While nice on paper, there's no monitor. CRT's are getting somewhat rare and Most LCD's are native at 1280X1024 (or 1680X1050). That card's a great value...but it's not exactly a good long term investment with an LCD. It's fine with a CRT, though. I'd rather tack on an additional $100-200 and get a better video card.

19" Widescreen LCDs are 1440x900...and they're pretty common as well.
