Bigfoot Network's Killer NIC Review

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 09/08/2006 05:46 PM [ Print | 5 comment(s) ] · 4662 views

If you ask me, it?s a bit interesting ? the idea that nobody up until now has really addressed the specific networking needs of a gamer. Instead, they?ve been forced to use the likes of on-board networking or mainstream solutions from add-in board companies like Linksys, Netgear and others.

We already have what I call ?p-u-idous?; CPU, GPU, PPU and now an NPU? Well if you ask the folks at Texas-based Bigfoot Networks, the NPU (Network Processing Unit) should be the next big-hit with gamers due to its promise of lower pings and higher frame rates. I mean, why not? It sort of makes sense doesn?t it? When we?re gaming online there is a lot of code flowing in and out of our PCs via the network port ? so I suppose this step seems logical, or does it?

Maybe they should design a cheaper version without the heatsink and other fancy stuff.

Having linux running on a pci card (w/ ethernet) is just awesome, so much potential (firewall, ftp server, etc).

I'm thinking $100-150 would be reasonable for such a product.

Relax m8ty :)

If you have money you are bound to buy stuff you don't really need, at some point

This is just such an example

If you have this luxury 'problem' just feel yourself lucky, there is no right or wrong really

Owning an up-to-date PC is always like having a very expensive subscription, you only choose the height of it

Well i just say that i have mediocre pc (dual-core,sli,2GB memory, etc.)And for today money haven't been problem
for long time (and no rich family all hard earned). But still my sense says not buy 300€ nic when you can almost do same with integraded or 10€ nic (but perhaps its that i don't play mp games i'm more single player). And here is tip to all who got everything in pc hardware buy a good car
and im talking about sector AUDI,MB,BMW not those east miracle cars. You get much better feel of superioty thats why i drive with AUDI :)
