AVG Free Edition Behaves Badly With Thunderbird

I'm sure many slashdot readers (those of us using Windows, of course) have AVG Free Edition installed on their machines. Couple that with Mozilla Thunderbird and you have a virus fighting duo. Only, the latest updates to AVG Free Edition seem to break the E-Mail scanner with Thunderbird, preventing passwords from validating correctly. On the bright side, if you can't receive any e-mails, you can't get infected by them! Hexus.net have more details. Note: At the time of writing the AVG Free Edition website seems to be running rather slowly.

What is the point of email scanning anyway? The resident antivirus scanner will pick up any infected emails before they can cause harm. It's a non-issue IMHO. |

Hence why I (Steve, HEXUS News Editor) don't use the e-mail scanner. I'm fairly confident that the resident scanner and Thunderbirds security over Outlook will leave me safe. |
