ATI's Catalyst 6.4 Crossfire Without the Cable

I was just checking some new graphics cards from HiS as we'll be doing a lot of product reviews for them soon and accidentaly stumbled into something very interesting. We all know that ATI is working on Crossfire support without that dreaded dongle cable. Catalyst 6.3 most definitely did not support this feature.

So I was preparing a test system with two X1600 Pro cards from HiS to see if the cards where okay and loaded up Cats 6.4. After entering the drivers I noticed that the Crossfire tab was active. It allowed me to enable Crossfire mode for the two X1600 Pro's. Rigth now it's running some benchmarks and seems to be working valid. This would also mean Crossfire support for X1000 family cards upto the X1800 GTO (without that y-cable). To be more precise .. there's no need for an expensive master card.
