Now that the NDA's have been lifted off ATi's X850 XTPE graphics card, a bunch of review site have thrown up their articles! Here's a snip from DriverHeaven!
The X850 is an evolution of the R423 (X800) gpu and is a native PCI-Express part. As it is based on the R423 the same feature set such as Shader Model 2, geometry instancing and 3Dc support is present. Where the product differs is in 2 main areas. Firstly the X850 has a new cooling/thermal management design which aims to cool the GPU and memory more efficiently than the X800 Cooler/design.
Secondly the X850 GPU is manufactured on a now refined .13 micron process allowing for further increased core speeds. On the pipeline front we have 16 pixel pipelines with 6 vertex pipelines. These combined with a core speed of 540mhz and memory of 590mhz give us what should be a very fast product.

Yee haw, dual slot. These video card companies need to pull an Intel and take a seperate design team to make a fast and cool mobile VPU and bring it onto their desktop line. Pretty soon we'll be seeing three slot designs and that will be the end of the world. |

On a different note, will these even be available when they are "released" or will it be a paper launch like the X800 line still is? Unless you want a PCI Express card, the AGP cards are more rare than the old Voodoo5 6000 cards. |
