It seems like ATI backsided Nvidia on this one. The amusing thing is that Nvidia set a long date before availability. It'll be interesting to see what Nvidia's final clock speeds are for the 6800U, lol.

Ahh well, I don't get where everyone says "more competition means more choice and lower prices". Both of these companies are selling cards and neither of them are going to try and undercut the other in the beginning. We're with these prices for at least 6 months I bet.

I think you're wrong, I think we're going to see prices drop and drop pretty fast.

ATi will be first out and the only next gen for a while and will probably charge premo prices, but will drop 'em once nVidia cards are finally available (IN JULY! ;) ).

Then nVidia will unveil that it's coming out with an Ultra Premo which will knock their Ultra prices back, ATi will match with it's XT Premo which will knock XT prices back a bit, and I'm hoping that a good old fashioned "gas war" price battle commences. 8)

easy there, I'll take the July date as a rumor since the first 6800 should be available for real beginning May. 6800 in bigger quantities will be available by end of May, beginning June but NOT July...

Anyway, let's us hope that the X800Pro does really not cost 500$ or ATI does have a real problem even if the X800Pro is available in stores in big quantities next Tuesday.

Technically I can confirm that the July date is a rumor, but only since I started it the day the nV40 "premiered" and I've been pushing it like a bad dog since.

Then again, I got my reasons for picking July...I didn't just make it up. ;)

If the 6800 is available in May, it's going to be "available" the same way the nV30 initially was...there will be about a hundred of them for sale all over the world!

July, it's still looking right for the 6800.

Hmmm.... I'm finding this a bit weird. This is the 12 pipeline version. Yet, it costs $499? When the 16 pipeline version comes out, what the heckis it going to cost or will prices on this puppy drop that fast?

In other news, check out the specs: temporal AA!!

Wait a second...

16 textures on each pass for a 12 pipeline card? Are these specs right?

If the "extreme Pipelines" are true, expect 20.
