We saw some earlier roadmaps that were implying that ATI plans to do R520, Radeon X1800 in AGP variation but it turns out that the company dropped its original plan.

Crossfire in X8x00 cards has to be a testing ground....it's the only reasonable explanation....that or they (at ati) are smoking something damn good. Now back on topic....I know what some people will think...."yes AGP is old, time for a change"...companies sure love to hear people repeat their PR mantras......but the bottomline is that PCI-Ex still do not show any real benefit, except of SLI of course, over AGP to put it to shame. The only real benefit comes on the "power issue" and it is quite an academic statement since, at least from NV's side (ATI still remains to be seen) their new cards consume give or take the same as their older generations. And even on SLI, you'd have to admit that not so many people are going to cash on 2 video cards when it wasn't cheap to get 1 on the first place....it's an enthusiast market. If you come to think of it, part of NVidia's success on the 6800 cards came from the very basic fact that they did produce more AGP parts than ATI (which became LOCO touting PCI-Ex ....probably repeating INTEL's mantra), came to produce AGP versions of the x800 cards (en masse) a bit late...or $50 overpiced compared to their PCI-Ex counterparts. |

It's amazing how fast they (ati&nvidia) can kill agp. (the large base of agp cards this seem to be odd tactic to companies) And pci still kicks when they are going to kill it? |
