Like Nvidia also ATI has granted some insight on own developments at the Merrill Lynch Hardware Heaven Technology Conference in San Francisco. David Orton, President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of ATI indicated that his company plans to assign Nvidia to the runner-up postion in terms of performance not only in autumn but until spring 2003 with their yet to be announced R300 products.

Concretely ATI wants to outperform the "GeForce5". Although they are ready for the fight in August, Orton doubted that Nvidia will already have a GeForce4 successor on the market at this time: "I don't think it's going to happen", Orton said. ATI plans to have its R300 codenamed high end and mainstream product ready for launch in quarter 4 of 2002 and not only be faster on the market, but also offer more performance.
Orton called the current ATI working motto Crush the Force. Besides R300 Orton already unveiled R400/R500 based products for the first half of 2003 again aimed for high end and mainstream markets. As usual thereafter notebook versions of the chips are to follow. Source: Golem.de
