ATI Crowd Demo!

Posted by: [NT] on: 06/02/2004 12:01 PM [ Print | 8 comment(s) ] · 3389 views

ATI has released a new RADEON X800 demo - Crowd. This demonstration shows the vertex shader processing power of the X800 being used to render a large crowd of soldiers (1400 in total) running across a rocky terrain. All of the models feature weighted skinned vertices and are independently animated. Grab it from here or see some pics here!

Seriously, did anyone wonder when the demo was going to end? Where were the explosions (you can hear them). Nice looking but boring as a 25 yr marriage.

well I thought that their "soldiers-running-in-a-straigh-line-innovative-AI" was exciting to watch!

try the Ruby wrapper on this demo, it should work for Radeons

A guy at nvnews posted the below but I haven't tried it. He said it ran slowly though. For ATI cards, using the Ruby wrapper (as already stated) is supposed to work.

"Runs on my FX5900 Ultra with 3D-Analyze v2.34 and "NV40 fix forR420 Demos"."

coding AI for a demo like that(instead of just scripting the flow) would have been a waste of time and money.
