The sad news, the old control panel as we know it will cease to exsist after August ! The 8.16 driver is the last one with the old control panel. Starting at 8.17 only the CCC version will be released. And thuss all next generation products will need to be configured through the CCC.

That's a shame... I never could understand why some manufacturers wanted to create totally non-standard control panels for their products - why not just use the standard windows stuff that everyone already knows? Even more of a shame 'cos on my XP the CCC won't even *start* which means I am stuck on whatever the defaults are When I try and "restart CCC service" it says it hasn't started - really great troubleshooting and error messages ATI - way to go... :s This seems to me like a huge step backwards to the mach64 horrendous driver bugginess of old. |

@Shandyboy: " 'cos on my XP the CCC won't even *start*" If this is the case then you have problems with your OS. You can't blame ATI for problems with your PC. |

But you can blame 'em for limiting the users, by only giving them the option to use that crappy CCC... |

that CCC has exhibited bugs over a lo-o-ong period of forced user beta testing - it's recalcitrant behavior is subject of much angst among the unsuspecting, newly formatted HD or no ... |

...and it's so slow. Games run fine, but ccc is slow as h***. This will be the first time we need to upgrade to run the control panel better |

Fair enough, but lets face it how many other ATI user's XP installations are also "broken" - and which strangely only affects the CCC not other control panels? Not wanting to sound arsey but all my other software works apart from the CCC and I know plenty of other people on forums who've had problems with this particular piece of "quality" software. ATI should pay attention to the "if it ain't broke then don't fix it" - the CCC offers nothing over the standard control panel other than gimmicks which don't offer anything useful. Even nvidia's non-standard control panels (nforce audio stuff) works on my machine heh |

FAO Nemo - not been funny but are you going to blame all our OS installs for this one piece of software not working? |

I agree CCC is a piece of useless crap... but the nforce audio control panel has been known to not work on some computers... (crashes when you try to run it). Everything else is alright though. |

I never used the control panel or the CCC. I do install them for some reason, but I have no use for them as I only have one monitor, and don't do TV out. I watch DVD and TV on my 19inch Flat Screen monitor. |
