We have noticed here at NGOHQ that some people still prefer to use the old ATI Control Panel over the Catalyst Control Center. As a result I have decided to incorporate the Control Panel into the newly released Catalyst 6.2s.

I had been using the old 5.x CP with the 6.x CATS and had no problems. But the fact that ATI no longer supplies the CP tells you their direction; CCC. Since the way CCC does it thing is different then the way CP does it, my guess is that one day setting options via CP won't work anymore. Not to mention any new options ATI provides which will be made to CCC. So for now CP might be an alternative but don't count on it. You could also grab a copy of Ray Adam's ATI Tray Tools and use that as your CP. Ray has coded a CCC compatibilty mode which sets all the options the way CCC would. |

How do I go about continuing to use the CP I already have (from the last 5.x Catalyst drivers)? If I have CP already installed, do I simply leave it installed and install the new 6.x drivers? How do I keep the CCC from being installed? |

Foremost, it's easiest to do downloads via the low-speed/dial-up options where things are separated into parts. With 6.2, you can download "driver only" that way. Think it was 5.11 that was the last to allow "control panel only" via identical method. I've been downloading "driver only" and installing it ever since 5.11. The 5.11 control panel continues to function with later drivers as long as "driver only" is downloaded and installed. If you download later packages in full for some reason, think you can do custom setup and tell it to install driver only as well. Just need the prior 5.11 control panel to stay around. |

Excellent tool that ATI Tray Tools is. Very small in size, and has more feature that I could care on it....haven't installed an ATI CP since last summer IIRC. |
