A big thanks to Marlboro_man for hooking us up with the Catalyst 3.7 Release Notes
These release notes provide information on the latest posting of ATI's industry leading software suite, CATALYST?. This particular posting updates the ATI Display Driver to version 7.93. This unified driver has been further enhanced to provide the highest level of power, performance, and reliability. The ATI CATALYST? software suite is the ultimate in performance and stability.

ATI Catalyst 3.7 Mirror at Driver Heaven
Here's a quick note from Terry Makedon A.K.A. CATALYST maker.
I would also like to point out at this time that CATALYST public driver posting frequence has been improved to a minimum of twelve (12!) times a year. Each one of these driver postings will support all supported operating systems and be fully unified for all RADEON class products. Needless to say every CATALYST driver posting will also be certified by Microsoft (WHQL).
Just as a side note, the upcoming CATALYST 3.8 will be the most innovative and significant CATALYST release ever, so keep your eyes out for that one!"

Oh yeah! And the new linux drivers are also out. Finally some support for XFree86 4.3.0. I hope the next drivers for Linux come much sooner and that ATI has finaly started supporting Linux more actively. |

The 16bit ogl texture bug is still present in 3.7. A fact which makes 3.7 an unusable steaming pile for me, just like 3.6. Imo, ati's drivers are no better than Nvidia's. I find it humorous that Nvidia takes a continual beating in the court of public opinion regarding driver quality, while ATI is religously defended. Imo, its amazing that 32bit ogl can be broken. I guess the beta testers dont play ogl games? I would much prefer bugs be fixed before time is spent "optimizing" for speed. More importantly for me this brings one thing into perspective, its time for so many people to stop bashing Nvidia and realize both companies have issues. |

"The 16bit ogl texture bug is still present in 3.7." Yes it is. "A fact which makes 3.7 an unusable steaming pile for me, just like 3.6." Sorry to hear that. "Imo, ati's drivers are no better than Nvidia's. I find it humorous that Nvidia takes a continual beating in the court of public opinion regarding driver quality, while ATI is religously defended." Hmm, I understand your frustration, but I disagree with your comment above. "Imo, its amazing that 32bit ogl can be broken. I guess the beta testers dont play ogl games? I would much prefer bugs be fixed before time is spent "optimizing" for speed." I cannot comment on what the other testers play or don't play, but to insinuate they don't play OpenGL games is completely incorrect. The issue also has noting to do with "optimizing" as you put it. From what I am to understand, the issue is with 16 BIT, not 32 bit. Have you ever reported this bug you are seeing at ATI's Driver feedback site? Maybe your time would be better spent there than here since the ATI people will see the issue if posted there, not here. "More importantly for me this brings one thing into perspective, its time for so many people to stop bashing Nvidia and realize both companies have issues." I have never bashed either company for their drivers or hardware. However, I will agree that both still have issue and neither are perfect. For what I play (D3D), I give ATI the advantage right now. |

Perhaps you could submit the bug also instead of spending time nitpicking his comments? |

Or perhaps you could submit the bug instead of spending time commenting on his reply? I do sincerely believe that ATi is well aware of the bug already, just a matter of time when it'll be fixed. And as for the matter regarding driver quality, I don't think anyone has ever said ATi:s drivers were perfect. No driver has ever been and probably never will be, 'cuz there's always an incredible amount of things to take into consideration while making them. |

"Perhaps you could submit the bug also instead of spending time nitpicking his comments?" How do you know I haven't? Nitpicking his comments? I guess responding to his criticisms one by one is nitpicking? Um, okay, guess there is always someone who will take issue with what one might say. Sorry to offend you with my "nitpicking"... CatalystMaker has already posted at Rage3D that the issue is fixed in an internal build but they did not have time to test it properly to make it in the 3.7 Cats. I will encourage any ATI user to make sure they post their complaint about this issue at the ATI user-feedback section...the more that complain, the more likely ANY issue gets more immediate attention. |
