Poppi told us that ATI has released a Call of Duty driver hotfix for people which are using the ATI Radeon series. The drivers are at packaging version 7.96. Some users have reported that after the game is launched, the system may hang or produce a VPU recover error. Other boards than RADEON 9500/9600/9700/9800 series may be affected.

I am not trying to troll by any means, but it seems like so many games out there have issues with ATI cards when they first come out. Then a few weeks later ATI issues a patch so people can play the game correctly. Right now I'm playing NFSU and the only people I see having problems are people with ATI cards.

So what's the deal? Why does ATI have so many problems getting games to run correctly on their cards? Are game makers still just not testing enough with ATI cards?

Like I said I'm not trying to troll, if I had a choice I'd buy an 9800 next. But at the same time it is cause for concern that so many patches have to be made.

The only issue I have had was with CoD. I know there are others like with BF1942 & NWN which I play neither. But aside from my CoD issue I have had zero problems with my 9700np. But on the same note. ATI's openGL rendering has always been weak in comparrison to nVidia's when the 2 are rendering everything correctly.

It seems there is a little surprise in the hotfix. It seems to be 3.10 beta drivers and with OpenGL 2.0 support :)

Ill get trolled for this but the the main reason is the developers prefering nvidia hardware, usually because of nvidia 'help'. TWIMTBP has a lot to answer for, but affects other games as well. It doesnt just affect ATI but also SIS,intel and the others, its just that ATI is the biggest.

You are right...The reason it's called "The way is meant to be played".

But OGL in ATI cards need some work..that's no secret to anyone.
