ATi and Futuremark both have their own interesting perspectives on NVIDIA's Lab Report. With all the criticism to the the 3DMark03 benchmark program, each party is already voicing out their own points of view. In response to NVIDIA's claim that the 3DMark03 software is lacking any similarity to actual games, it misrepresents the gaming experience, leading consumers to errant conclusions, a spokesman from ATi said:
"In the first test (Wings of Fury) nVidia says its not a realistic representation of a game and they post a screen grab that shows a bunch of small planes in the distance. Lots of holes in that (e.g. there are lots of games like that, and that's a very biased screenshot!), but hold onto the basic point that the tests should represent games realistically." Cool! I guess the only way to fairly settle this is to have the CEOs of each corporation have a knife fight to the death to see who is right. I never thought of 3dm2k1se as indicative of "real world gaming" either...but I certainly thought it was reflective of real world gaming performance. I intend to treat 3dm2k3 the same way, once I get some hardware that'll support it properly. I really think it's just too soon to tell about if 3dm2k3 is a good indicator or not...we'll really have to wait until some games come out that are that demanding on our systems too. (Although, I am STILL totally up for the knife fight to the death idea!) |

Hmm...if this is such a good test of performance then why do some sites (HardOCP for instance) refuse to use it to benchmark video cards? I mean they are one of the premiere hardware sites yet they see using 3DMark03 as a waste of time that doesnt help the enduser in their decision at all when getting a card. |

Yes, and Tom's pretty much followed nVidia's press release letter for letter and also declared the FX the new "King" of gaming. Aside from having nazi forums mods and all, [h] has shown a tendancy towards bias at times. Neither site is reputable in my book. |
