ATI admits to same ''tricks'' as Nvidia

Thanks to Mackey D for pionting out this article posted over at GameSpot.

After criticizing rival Nvidia for using optimized trilinear filtering algorithms in its PC graphics card drivers--calling them "unacceptable tricks" in a recent presentation to hardware reviewers last month--ATI Technologies has acknowledged using similar optimizations itself.

Sheeesh! Would people just get over that fact that both companies do the same thing! It's business. Plus I wish that Brian Burke would get gang raped by 40 hairy men! lol

Where were all these sites when nVidia was cheating the bejesus out of EVERYTHING last year? Why are they only crying foul now that it's ATi with their fingers caught in the cookie jar? :/

I was actually thinking the opposite. when Nvidia is cheating it always seems like people go apeshit. When ATI does it's almost like a footnote.
I personally don't care and have/do own cards from both companies.
If I get faster framerates in games without a loss of quality, I couldn't give 2 shits how they do it :)

You are kidding right? Tell me that you meant that as a joke. There wasn't a site on the net that didn't mention what nVidia was doing last yer. Give me a break Digi.

I'm sorry, but this is a load of crap. I haven't made up my mind as to whether or not what ATi is doing is cheating (there appears to be no image degradation). However, in no way does this compare to what Nvidia did. Nvidia specifically coded their drivers such it would look for EXE's of benchmarks and games used as benchmarks and made various "adjustments" to pump up the score. I haven't exactly kept up with this issue with ATi, but my understanding of what is going on doesn't even come close to comparison of what Nvidia did. Furthermore, Nvidia stretched the truth a bit when it came to the specs of it's hardware ("The FX line of cards are 8x1 pipelines." Yeah, right Nvidia...). I think we got some Nvidia homers who need to calm and step back a back to rethink what they are doing/saying. Just my 2 cents...

Can this be any more old?

There are like 5000 (ok a lot, dunno how many, stopped reading like in page 40) replies in a thread in B3D, and yet no one can decide if it affects IQ.

The difference is the big sites that were/are in nvidias pocket ([H]/Anand/Toms) pretty much ignored what nvidia was doing until they had absolutely no choice. Now ATI has done something, probably the most minor of nvidias crimes (if its a crime at all since it actually works well in ATIs case) its an issue for everyone.

Ahh, no. The 'big' sites investigated the situation, but didn't necessarily choose to class Nvidia as Satans semen for it. The smaller, more biased, sites saw it as an opportunity to rip into Nvidia and did so with glee, playing to their inbred audience with aplomb.

What he said is the truth. The big sites ignored it, the so called "smaller biased" did play QUITE an OPPOSITE roll on this. Get your facts staright.

Anand came with 3-4 lame small screenshots at the 9800XT review for the first time and I have yet to hear from a Toms' article.

Wrong, they did mention it here and there but for some unknown (!) reason they down played it as much as possible. Its true that after a while the IQ differences were minor, but at the start of it all, when the 5800 was around, the differences were HUGE and nvidia deserved to be slammed!! They were ripping people off big time. If you dont think nvidia deserved to be slammed then you are a fanboy, what they did was well out of order and will hopefully never be repeated.
Dont you remember the large number of forum posts that were deleted at both toms and [H] because they dared to tell the truth about nvidias cheating?

It was everywhere. It really was. You know this.

I know, but those 2 or 3 sites are the biggest and have the most readers, especially amoung the noobs.
