A quote from the article:
| As per most new chipsets these days, PCI Express 2.0 support is present and correct, with 790FX offering up to forty-two PCI Express lanes. Thirty-two of these lanes are reserved for graphics boards, with 790FX capable of supporting up to four electrical PCI Express slots for ATI's latest quad-GPU CrossFireX technology if required - Naturally, with only 32 lanes set aside for such a configuration, each PCI Express 16x slot will only be granted eight lanes of bandwidth, although this should still be more than enough for the majority of operations (especially given the doubling of bandwidth in PCI Express 2.0 over the 1.1 standard). This leaves another six PCI Express lanes for PCI Express 1x slots, with the final four lanes set aside to connect the 790FX northbridge with a southbridge. |
