AnandTech takes a look at (and in) the new Mac mini, iLife '05 and iWork...
Weeks before MacWorld San Francisco there were rumors appearing about a "headless Mac", an ultra cheap Mac offered without a monitor. The first thing that came to mind was an Apple version of an eMachines system. Interestingly enough however, the rumors also stated that it was an attempt from Apple to get iPod users to give Mac OS X a try. It sounded odd at the time...

Didnt tempt me at all with specs of 256mb, 5200rpm HD, and a price of 500 US. Could get a better laptop for cheaper. |

What am I supposed to do with it? It's too crappy to do any serious stuff with like playing the latest games or do intensive stuff (photoshop etc.). It's too expensive to run as a soft server (can get a complete P2/P3 computer for a pittance). This seems to be a design thing. People that buy stuff because of looks only will probably get this while people with a little more know-how and knowledge will skip. |

For the basic Mini Mac, it costs £339 - Apple UK Store Price. Plus you can customise it, add a DVD writer, faster CPU, better higher compacity Hard Drive and of course u can increase the memory - to 4 gigs if u like :P all from the Apple UK Store - I know, I looked But I recommend getting the memory from some where like Crucial, their cheaper in that dept |

Style over substance and only then if you like apples bland minimalist look. No good for first time computer users and no good for experienced users. The only use i can think of is for web developers who need a mac to test their sites on (because its cheap). This is a set back for PCs, its a throw away item that will simple put the gullible noobs off computers. |
