The new Gigabit KillerNIC is catered towards the hardcore gamer that requires every drop of performance possible from a gaming system. Utilizing a 400MHz network processor with 64MB of dedicated PC-2100 DDR memory, the Killer NIC has plenty of power to perform Gigabit transfer rates without hogging up too many CPU cycles.

This is quite amazing, but at the same time its a joke. Gamers dont need optomized cards for gigabit speeds, as most games use very little bandwidth. btw I love my sub 10 pings using an onboard NIC. I'ts more about the ISP than the network card. |

yeah, shouldn't be aimed towards gamers really. Hardcore network file transferers such as myself will love it though :P Transferring DVDs back and forth can suck some nice CPU cycles. |

I was thinking about this card with a buddy yesterday while we were having lunch. In reality, I don't think this card is aimed at the truly hardcore tech junky gamers. It's aimed at the kids/people who think they're hardcore gamers. You know, the guys who go out and buy the case mods, all the lights, all the bells and whistles, but then put something like a Geforce FX5200 into their system as a video card. It's marketed at these people because they're the ones that aren't truly computer knowledgeable, but want to be "hip and cool" in the computer gaming scene. The card probably works for what it offers. If you notice, it says that it prioritizes game traffic. This is the assumption of course that all of your traffic that's coming out of your machine is more or less P2P traffic. You know, the ones that always have limewire and things running and wonder why their computer is so slow. This card will prioritize the game traffic above that. I could find this card only to be useful if it had an easy-to-use interface for traffic shaping, which could come in handy for people who don't want to learn iptables, etc. |
