An Interview with NVIDIA's David Kirk

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 10/05/2003 02:55 PM [ Print | 7 comment(s) ] · 1687 views

Just found this over at FiringSquad, to qoute:

We were recently given the opportunity to conduct a phone interview with David Kirk, Chief Scientist at NVIDIA. In this position, Dr. Kirk has played a key role in developing the technologies that ultimately went into NVIDIA?s RIVA and GeForce line of video cards. There have been lots of questions surrounding the GeForce FX architecture that we wanted to ask about, more recently, NVIDIA has also shifted its focus from Cg, it?s high-level programming language for graphics, to Microsoft?s equivalent, HLSL.

Nice article, very nicely written and very nicely responded to by Nvidia's developer. It wasn't a little kick fight like ATI has fostered "OUR STUFF IS BETTER THAN THEIRS!" but it got down to the points and answered them truthfully.

For that reason is one I don't like AMD as a company (I use their product in my system at the moment, so don't go flaming me). To them, the Athlon was more of a fight, and Sanders really said some bold statements about Intel a bit back. But nah, Intel goes with the professional courtesy and doesn't cuss back at them.

He is a Dr. and developer of hardware, not his job to get into pi$$ing matches. You gonna tell me the NV PR crew isn't into slinging schit? ;)

hmm... let's see...

1. Accusing FM of developing unfair benchmarks.
2. Accusing Valve of being biased and not using their unofficial, non-WHQL'ed, etc... drivers for HL2 benches
3. Accusing Microsoft of not writing DX9 "they way it's meant to be written" ala nvidia
4. Accusing almost everybody else for their inferior line of FX cards.
5. (need i say more?)

that's hardly what i would describe as "professional", fanboy :)

Professional Accusation Skills, perhaps?

6. Oh! And i think they bribed FM with a shitload of $$$ or threatened them that FM completely changed their stand on "cheats"... errr... "OPTIMIZATIONS", so to speak, and that FM's Hall Of Fame was down for so long... they had something to do with it, me thinks :P

As ive said before there is a lot more to come out yet, just wait someone will break it sooner or later.
The other thing is nvidia rarely does its own shit slinging, it usually gets someone else to do it for them someone like Kyle Bennett for example.
