AMD talks Windows Vista graphics drivers

Tech-Report reports: Although AMD has been notably quicker than Nvidia to get WHQL-certified graphics drivers for Windows Vista out the door, both companies still seem to have a fair amount of tweaking to do in order to bring Vista's game performance up to speed with that of Windows XP. The folks at PC Perspective got Nvidia to reveal its Vista driver update roadmap last week, and now they've done the same with AMD. AMD is sticking with a monthly driver update schedule, and says it will bring "significant OpenGL optimizations" with a new Catalyst 7.2 Vista release due this month. In March, AMD will add further OpenGL optimizations as well as CrossFire support for OpenGL applications. The April release will apparently be more focused on Linux, but the May Catalyst 7.5 drivers will add support for multisampled adaptive antialiasing.

Seems to me drivers for older hardware like the 6, 7000 series are about the same as ATI/AMD's. Since AMD doesn't even have a next gen design out yet to see if their drivers fare any better in games, maybe the issue is Vista is such a pile of crap code and not Nvidia's fault? Who knows, probably a good helping of both.
