AMD delays the R600 yet again

Not a terribly big surprise, AMD has stated that yet again the release of the R600 series will be delayed. Originally planned for November, it has been pushed back twice and now a third time.
It is interesting to note that AMD's reasoning for this doesn't seem to be due to technical issues, but rather a simple re-planning of the launch: Even this latest scenario will go by the wayside as AMD announced that "To better align our strategy with current market opportunities, we've changed the launch plan for R600.? Superb reasoning. Nvidia has had the G80 out for quite some time, which is letting them get an even larger lead over AMD. They'd better act soon. Techspot

Seems like AMD is going to be the death of ATI. I was expecting better things with ATI since the merger but it seems the opposite is going to occur. This really is a shame. |

You'd think they'd want to get that card out ASAP. With all of the issues Nvidia has had, anything they put out sells itself. After all, it's drivers HAVE to be better than the Nvidia ones. I can only imagine they're either having the same issues with Vista, or it's not as fast as the G80's. |

hey artard, this hardly has much to do with AMD. A full switchover of operations will probably take 2 yrs and ATI was fucked with the R600 long before AMD came along. |

Extreme tech hinted at a rumor "silicon has to have a respin"...anotherwords there is serious issues actually getting enough good chips to go retail with it. This is directly a ATI[now AMD] design team failure because Nvidia uses the same foundry for the massive 8800. Doesn't matter if you can come up with a incredible design on paper if no one can translate it to a mass produced chip. Hats off to Nvidia [again] being able to get their product out on time in decent quantities. |

Do you seriously believe that AMD would aquire ATI and piddle around for 2 years before they can sync up and get on the same page while competing with Nvida? Yeah, ok. That's like a horse race where the opposition stops to take a drink of water and expecting to win the race. Even states in the article it has nothing to do with technical aspects but just marketing this time . An AMD desicion. ATI has to stay at pace with NVIDIA or they will end up in the same league as Matrox and company. WE need a strong competitor to NVIDIA in the Advanced GFX market or the consumer will suffer in the end. But, the more you put the peices together the clearer the big picture becomes. It really seems that AMD would like to go to the integrated GFX solution such as Intel has . Intel has a greater share of the market than NVIDIA and ATI with the onboard video. Reread the article before you start flinging such intelligent banter. |
