Several arrests have been made related to the break-in to Valve's network and the theft of the Half-Life 2 source code.
Within a few days of the announcement of the break-in, the online gaming community had tracked down those involved," said Gabe Newell, Valve's CEO.
It was extraordinary to watch how quickly and how cleverly gamers were able to unravel what are traditionally unsolvable problems for law enforcement related to this kind of cyber-crime.
Thousands of tips were received related to the criminal activities, with a core group of people who were able to analyze and backtrack from these clues. Subsequent to these individuals being identified, Valve has been working with various national authorities to prepare cases against those involved, leading to these arrests.

Well Guess What Gabe ? Thousands of People will Steal & Copy your game. So do us all a favor save some cash and dont use any safedisk or any other anti copy device. I wonder if ATI Or Nvidia have enough Polygons to render Gabe Newell Phat Azz. From the looks of it there seems to be no multiplayer for HL2,just some lame ports of old games to the new engine. |

Yeah! HL2 is going to suck because it's been delayed so long! Nobody is going to buy it! They should just let those hackers go because they're just doing Valve a favor! Whatever. HL2 is still going to sell tons of copies and will still likely be one of the top 5 best selling games of the year. It's and FPS...of course it's just going to have ports of current games. What else CAN they do? I suppose UT2004 sucks because they're just porting games from the original and 2003, right? Counter Strike and Day of Defeat are still among the most played games on the internet after all these years. Updated versions of old games are what I like to call "sequels." People are always going to pirate software. I'm sure they'll lose money from it. Software companies know this. Basic copy protection will deter some people. If someone is determined to steal the game, there's likely no way to stop them and I'm sure Valve knows this. Again, there are tons of people that love to claim HL2 is going to suck and nobody is going to buy it, but I've never heard of a game that only got a *moderate* delay (no Daikatana or DNF references please) really having their sales affected. Look at Diablo 2, Starcraft, Unreal, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, etc. as examples. All of those games were delayed for years in some cases and were still huge hits. Who cares? I'm going to buy the game and I know I'm not alone. |
