Just spotted this bit of Info over at Elitebastards.com.
Anandtech have briefly posted up some unofficial Half-Life 2 numbers, comparing the Radeon 9800XT and GeForceFX 5950 in the forthcoming game benchmark. The numbers are interesting, although of course it's worth bearing in mind that these GeForceFX numbers were almost certainly achieved using the Detonator 50 drivers that Valve stipulated should not be used.

Pointless until we see IQ shots ! For all we know the FXs IQ could be great or could look like a commodore 64 did it. We already know what it looks like on a radeon. Its also been suggested that although the game reports that the FX is using DX9 in the DX9 path the drivers are hacking it back to DX8, but again we dont know until we see the screenshots. |

comment ripped from anandtech which is so so true: Hey, really unprofessional to post benchmark scores - of a benchmark you didn't do yourself - of a game/benchmark not available yet to the public - using drivers that are not yet and/or will never be published, let alone WHQL'ed - where competitioners are not doing the same workload (codepaths anyone?) - without verification of IQ - without even STATING THE GODDAMN source (not that it isn't pretty obvious) See, even without having to use the words "cheat" or "optimisation" this is unacceptable, even as a "first look" or whatever. |
