We have just released a press release on the AMD overclocking and benchmarking achievements by Staff member OPPAINTER ...
He has successfully overclocked an AMD 2700+ CPU to 3100Mhz using Prometeia cooling system, and using this chip aboard an ABIT NF7-S broke into the previously Intel only TOP 5 at Futuremarks ORB with a score of 21,085. These are incredible achievements indeed, and we would appreciate your consideration in placing this news release in your news section, Thank you in advance:)

Our Overclocking Guru has done it again with AMD, this time breaking the 3Ghz barrier WITHOUT use of LN2 or dry ice cooling, and this 2700+ CPU was riding aboard his ABIT KD7 and cooled by the Prometeia cooling system .
After a steep learning curve with the new ABIT nForce2 offering, the NF7-S, which involved a solution/fix for running high FSB on it with 2600-2700+ CPUs (333Mhz CPU's had been limited to 180ish FSB on this board) found herehttp://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6934, OPPAINTER took the trusty Dual Channel deep into previously Intel only waters in 3DMark and placed himself in the Top 5 with a blistering run of 21,085 3DMarks. You can view that remarkable run here:

Of course he can get over 21,000 3DMarks, he didn't run any of the advanced tests, only the Car, Dragon, and Lobby Scenes... He did not run the Fill Rate, Polygon Count, Environment Bump Mapping, DOT3 Bump Mapping, Vertex Shader, Pixel Shader, Advanced Pixel Shader, or Point Sprite Tests which change the outcome of the Benchmark greatly. |

think before you reply. most if not all of the top scores are done with only the STANDARD 5 tests. The minimum REQUIRED for a score. |

Exactly, only the game tests go into the score. I tried only games and then everything and got the same score. |

I've seen this one argued over on many a boards, and I'm not saying this is the definitive answer since it's a subjective thing...but I've always sort of felt that there was a "gentlemen's agreement" (just a term, no offense meant to the ladies....the Dig believes in gender equality, I'm just using "gentlemen's agreement" as a term) among OCers that a 3dm2k1se score wasn't a REAL score unless it was a full test run. Technically the poster who said that the first 4 games were all that is required for a test to be official is right, but among most OCers I know of it doesn't quite count as a REAL score unless your rig can make it thru all the tests. If you're really OCing your rig to the absolute max, you'll generally find that you can run the first four tests at your absolute limits but it'll lock-up during one of the remaining tests. It's not exactly 'cheating' not to run those tests, but it doesn't say much about the stability of the overclock if it can't make it thru the full run. |

Extreme Overclockers aren't going for stability when they max out the system with LN2 (won't work for more than a short while). They're doing it to make records and push the limit. The tests after the first 4 game tests have nothing to do with the result, they're only there to show you the ability of your card. Whether it's cheating or not I leave to you. But you could compare it to the cars pushing the limit for maximum groundspeed (@ Bonneville Flats etc.). They will only run for a short while, and they can hardly be used for anything else than attempts to break records. |
