3DMark Makers Upset with [H]

Tero Sarkkinen, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Futuremark, wrote in this morning with a directive for HardOCP to stop slandering their 3Dmark product line and threatens to bring in lawyers. I do have to think that this is a shot across our bow as surely ATI and NVIDIA have told Futuremark about recent interviews we have done with the video giants in preparation for an upcoming HardOCP editorial.

I used to spend alot of time at hocp. But that place is turning lamer everyday since kyle neutered the forums. Kyle's whole thing with Futuremark is a joke. It's nothing more than an internet pissing contest. You dont like to use it? NO problem. But why evangelize it at every opportunity? Possibly because it draws attention to you and brings in alot of page hits? Page hits = Money. |

Is it just me, or does anyone else notice that it's a shitty world when you can't say something BAD about someone? It technically isn't slander, since HardOCP is not a competitor to Futuremark. HardOCP is a fan-run site, and Kyle can pretty much say whatever he wants..... |

Is it now only OK to agree with others and play nice and not call a pile of crap a pile of crap anymore? 3DMark is a joke and most know this. Sue me 3DMark for expressing this opinion. |

"And Tero, I know you guys are not Americans, so you might want to catch up with The United States Constitution and specifically the First Amendment to it. I guarantee you that HardOCP is very much inside its legal rights to express opinions about your products and will continue to do so. What amazes me is that you are stepping on some of the very toes that Futuremark relies on to make its money, and those toes belong to the gaming and hardware communities that we share the truth with on a daily basis. Now take our advice. You are barking up the wrong tree little doggy." Since when is if illegal to express your opinion? How stupid is this??????? I will never buy a futuremark product. IMO this is a company trying to bully a site into not saying it's cons of the program. Worthless......... |

Kyle is such an ass.. I almost fell over laughing at the point where he started to steam about freedom of speech, after all hardocp forums are famous for banning everyone who dares to disagree with the god kyle. |

i think anyone who knows their stuff about computers, takes 3dmarks results with a grain of salt really, and i guess the dev's at 3dmark live under a rock to not notice all the forums and sites talk about how useless of a benchmark it is. heres a good example of their crud: i just recently got me a 9600 non pro and oc'd it to pro speeds (128megs of ram and 8x agp) running omega's drivers (yes, they rock on my radeon). i replaced my Geforce 4 ti4200 64meg chaintech card. all the games i play had a major jump in FPS, of course.. except doom 3 (big deal). 3dmark2001 tells me that my gf4 was faster than this radeon, but fraps tells me a different story. i would score 12000 with my gf4 and my d3d performance was pitiful in games, i score about 9000 points with this radeon and like i said.. all my games are running faster. 3dmark2004 (or whatever) i think i scored a whole 1400 points in, and 05 i got..well i dont know what i got, i cant stand to watch a slide show and i aborted, uninstalled it, and laughed. i wouldnt trust 3dmark's software to tell me differences in my machine using various tweaks or drivers, and i see people say they use it to burn in their oc'd video cards.. ya know what, go to www.fraps.com and/or get any in game commands to display fps counters, load up your fav game(s), and take the fee to register 3dmark and buy you some caffine drinks and pizza, and play your butt off all night THAT will burn your card in just as nicely.. and you'll have more fun doing it lol. as for [H], meh, i dont visit his site, i've never cared for his or toms site, i see alot of em bashing rage3d, and driverheaven, when both those sites has a great forum to reference when troubleshooting your stuff, and looking for fixes. just my take on it all. cheers. |

"To everyone at [H]ardOCP Please accept my sincererest apologies for myself reacting the way I did yesterday morning and for sending those emails to Kyle that he posted on the news page. I would like to hereby let everyone know that I am withdrawing all of that. Also, I feel that I owe everyone an explanation of why it happened. For years, we have been trying to get constructive cooperation going with the HardOCP team. However, for one reason or another none of these attempts have succeeded. So, naturally we have been little bit frustrated by it. Then, I again saw a newspost yesterday morning with just a statement that our product sucks without any explanation or argumentation or technical reason of why they so think. This just caused an immediate, and I have to add, rather immature, reaction in myself and I sent off those emails without really thinking. So, as a summary, I hope that we can all move forward from here. We do wish more constructive critique and I would like to emphasize that we really encourage everyone to send and publish any and all feedback, good or bad, as long as it is reasonably argumented, since only that helps this industry move forward. Sincerely, Tero Sarkkinen" Looks like they gave in. Heh, that was probably the best move futuremark has done. |
